Abstract Lateral intake structures suffer from sediment deposition and instability of flow path which may have a negative influence on the efficiency power plants that use river intakes as primary source for their cooling system. This study aims to experiment usage submerged vanes mitigation method determine effectiveness in decreasing deposition. A numerical model was constructed using DELFT3D reach is located Nile River including structure. Several scenarios were tested optimise several parameters such one or two rows distance lateral intake. The results generated showed provided 30% reduction erosion front compared base case 33% volume entering Moreover, 36% observed when placed at equivalent 0.3 intake’s opening. output it more optimal
